The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Quick Block/Head Painting Question

Hey all, I just got my Block and Heads back from the mechanics shop and there nice and clean. Now I would like to paint it, mmmm, probably orange. All I need to know is: Is it ok to just paint it, after covering everything up of course, without cleaning it. Or should I wipe it down with a rag, or with an air hose?

PS: The Heads can be painted too right?

I don't know how well your shop cleaned your engine but I would take it out on the driveway and wash it with some Simple Green and a pressure washer and clean it out good inside and out. Use a rifle ram rod with a cloth patch to clean the oil galleys. Make sure you get All the leftover metal shavings out, or your going to be rebuilding your engine again.

Once it's clean of all dibris and oil you can paint it. Block, head, oil pan or what ever strikes your fancy.

Oh, I did have them do a special cleaning with the block where the oil galleys did get cleaned, and the block was cleaned inside-out, same with heads. So, I guess I can just go ahead and get the paint and....paint it, if I do!
