Hello again,

Just curious, I have seen cars and bikes before with what you would call chrome on them but it actually had a gold like tint to it, very sharp looking.

Can any of you tell me what they do to get that?

Cost?

Thank's,

VHT sells a paint (dye) you can spray over chrome or plated surfaces. I used it on the carbs on my gto. I also nickel plated the pulleys, it worked great. I can e-mail you a picture of the engine if you want.

The yellowish stuff is either cadmium plating or hard chrome. Both are yellow. Hard chrome is very expensive. Normal "chrome" is actually nickel with a very thin layer of chrome over it to keep it from oxidizing. Elemental or hexavalent chrome is yellow, so if you plate it on thick it protects better but is yellow.

There are plating shops that do gold tone plating. I don't know how the costs compare to typical chrome plating. I have seen advertisements in a few of my truck magazines for gold plating in lieu of chrome plating. Also, you can do a online search via Google of any of the many search engines for information regarding gold plating.
