I'm getting ready to put my rebuilt 235 back in my '54 3100 after bore job, pistons, bearings, oil pump, valves, etc., etc. I'm going with an Offy intake with dual carbs, and Fentons. Plus I'm changing to solid state ignition.

My question is how to run the new exhausts. Should they run out the rear straight under the bumper? Or along the running boards and dump out the sides in front of the rear tires? Or should they dump out the side behind the rear tires?

Oh, and I'm not interested in cab stacks, although I know that is an option too.

Thanks for your opinions.

It's really a matter of personal choice. Mine separate at the back of the cab and then run over the rear axle and out the back on each side.

Geoff, there is a picture of my truck from the rear on Rob English's web page. My pipes have 6 inch chrome tips welded to the ends. This will give you an idea of what duals look like sticking straight out under the bumper..

The stock location, I believe, was on the side behind the rear tire. I wanted mine straight back.

I think on the sides you would hear more which can be good or bad depending on your mufflers and your point of view.

The side exit will make the engine sound like it has a sore throat, hoarse. The six has a rather strong "pop" in the pipes and the longer the pipe the more mellow the sound becomes. You don't need large diameter pipes as they'll make 'em sound harsh as well. 2" work just great. Put'em out the back and they'll put a smile on your face.
