The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline Rear Hub Removal - 1947 1-Ton Dually

Good Evening Bolters, I am rebuilding the rear hubs on my 1947 1-ton dually. The prior owner must have used a screwdriver and sizable hammer to back off the pair of nuts holding the hubs on. The threads on the drivers side are kind of boogered up. Anyone know the diameter and TPI on the axle so I could snoop around for a die to run on and off to clean up the threads? Also, is there a spanner wrench available to back off/install those nuts? And lastly, can new hub nuts be found or is this only a junk yard item? Many thanks - Joe

Hy amtrakjoe, I think a thread file would be best for this thread restoration project, if you can find one with the correct pitch. There are expensive thread restoration kits available for axle tubes, but hardly worth purchasing for one job, the same is true for the proper sockets for the bearing adjusting nuts. As to the nuts themselves they may be available, I have never needed to find new ones, hope that helps.
