It is off a 1957 283 and I want to keep the original look and housing. Thanks for the help. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | You can't buy the bearing/seal separately any more. At one time they were available from the Chevrolet parts department. So you're best bet is a rebuilt from the auto parts. dg

As far as I know the shaft/bearing assemblies have never been available to the general public, the seals you might be able to find, you'll need a press and a jig to set the impeller to the correct height. The industry has left this job to specialist rebuilders for years, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 893 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 893 | Just seen a rebuid kit on E/bay for $55.00. I also got done looking up a 57 283 water pump at Rockauto.com and they had some there for less than $20.00. ZipCorvette.com also shows a rebuild kit for $50.00.

It went thru many parts number changes after that but was the same shaft assembly. I sold a lot of them and installed them at home when I was a Chevrolet parts man back in the early 60’s. As Brian said, you may get lucky and find one on evil bay but the rebuilders have cornered the market and are the only ones that are able to get the new assemblies now a days. Much like the kits for the vacuum wipers, which are dominated by one rebuilder today who won't sell you kits, only units rebuilt by them.
