The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline '37 car 3 speed bits?

I've been putting together a 3spd for a '37 sedan.

I have several other g/boxes in bits and noticed that the pickup ones have a spacer between the rear bearing and the U joint yoke.

The car trans is without this spacer , but it seems like it should have one, maybe 1/4" long?

I cannot find an exploded diagram to verify this , or any info that says how to remove the current end float in the output shaft.

Anyone done this ??

Thanks , yes that works for me , I dunno why it was not pictured in my '37 manual , but I see I just needed to draw the main output shaft into the rear bearing a little more.

Update;

Well I was wrong ...... I had fitted the output shaft correctly into the rear bearing .

What I had not noticed was the circlip groove for retaining the rear bearing in the casing was slogged and that is causing the end float I was unhappy with.

Back to the drawing board for a fix for that.

Well I could not see a way to economically repair the case , so I just put a little 601 loctite around the outer shell of the bearing and hope it will be enough to take the load. Time will tell.
