My progress pics | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 | Buck, I bought a small cutter for a Dremel Tool and chucked it into my air drill. I vee'd out the cracked areas down to the core of the steering wheel. I mixed up some PC-7 epoxy and filled the cracks, smoothing it with lacquer thinner on my finger. I let the epoxy harden and hand sanded the epoxy back into the shape of the original wheel. The sanding was time consuming. I did it a little at a time over a period of a couple of days. I primered it and shot some lacquer on it. The wheel looks like new. I am sure you could do a nice job on your wheel..

What primer if any did you use on wheel? Have you driven it enough to see how paint is holding up? My 65 GMC wheel is perfect except for paint being worn off outer edge and I have paint here if it'll hold up I'll sand and paint it. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 581 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 581 | Buck, I restored mine pretty much the same way Bill describes and recorded the process on my website. Here's the web page: Spifin\' up the Steering Wheel The PC-7 epoxy can be obtained from Eastwood in the kit, Chevy Duty and some hardware stores, I believe.
