For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 | Does anyone know how to find out exactually what my truck is? On the tags under the hood the serial # 6113312585,GVW -7700 lbs. It is 132 " wheelbase. I think it is a 1946 1 or 1.5 ton truck. It has dual wheels,7;00x20,5 slot rims. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy foot, your serial number breaks down as a 1946 Chevrolet 1 1/2ton chassis with cab, factory wheelbase was 134 1/2", hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 | So does that mean in the serial # 6 =1946,1133 =1 1/2 ton and the rest of the # 's are production numbers? Where would you find more information on them? Are parts available for them somewhere? Groups, parts availability aftermarket? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy foot, 6 = year 1946 verify by body style, 1133 means 1 1/2 ton cab and chassis and as you said the rest are the production numbers. More info, find a maintenance manual or parts book covering that year. Parts are available from quite a few vintage suppliers, you can always check in here and post questions and ask for parts in the parts wanted forum here, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 7 | What vintage suppliers are an option ? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy foot, American Classic Truck Parts is a sponsor of this website, Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts is another supplier, there are many more and there are specialty suppliers for things like weatherstrip, brake parts, wiring and body parts. Take a good look around on here, read a few tech tips, get familiar with this site, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,076 Authorized Pest | | Authorized Pest Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,076 | You ought to check out this Tech Tip on Spotting Art Deco trucks. There is a whole section in Tech Tips about identifying your truck. One specifically about deciphering your VIN. As 3B suggested, take a look at the Links Page. There is a good breakdown on the first page of categories. Subsequent pages have links listed to suppliers. Almost 1,000 listed. And as 3B said, American Classic Truck Parts (see the link in the left hand corner) and Jim Carter have been enthusiastic supporters of this site and the restoration hobby. Both offer a 10% discount to members of our group (need to ask for it). Jim Carter is a real truck nut -- you can even call him to ask questions. He's offered help many times on our site, especially checking over Tech Tips (like the Art Deco one - he gave it a glance and sent in some changes for us). All around good guy. Good luck. Peg

Has anyone got any ideas? The only reproduction headlight buckets I could find for my '46 were Fiberglass. For steel, check eBay and post in the parts wanted as was previously mentioned. Look locally for guys selling parts too, I see someone doing that once in a while here. If you're okay with Fiberglass, I believe Jim Carter has them. I bought more parts from Jim Carter than anywhere else, and recommend them over a local vendor I used... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 176 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 176 | What style light do you have? For most of the hard parts, sheet metal, headlight buckets and such. I've noticed that you need to look in other places such as,the truck parts for sale,or post in truck parts wanted, local salvage yards,Ebay? I was thinking of switching to the longer teardrop style that you probably have and found a set that were incomplete on Ebay.

Sometimes a deal comes up, but often they're way overpriced and rusted beyond belief. | | |
