The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts 57 Chevy two ton engine pull.

The last time I pulled the engine on my 57 two ton I pulled it out along with the tranny. I just figured it was easier that way.

Can you pull just the engine? And what about re-installing it? Any body aware of any snags I might run into or tricks to make this job easier. You input is greatly appreciated.

Hy rautru, I didn't think you could get the tranny to come out with the engine because of the interference with the engine rear crossmember. Yes you can pull just the engine, if we're talking a V8 engine, leave the bellhousing to crossmember bolts in place, but remove the bellhousing to engine bolts and the inspection covers from the bottom of the bellhousing, then the engine should pull away from the bellhousing/transmission, you will have to support the rear of the transmission. If we're talking six cylinder engine, then unbolt the transmission from the engine and support it or remove it from the chassis, then you can remove just the engine, after removing all engine attachments, hope that helps.
