Here's my plan of attack:
- Get the 66 1/2 ton rear end
- Measure for fitment
- Search high and low for sizes on U joints for 52 (coming up empty so far)
- Compare with 66 U joint size:
Bearing Cap Diameter (in) Axis 1:
1.188 in.
Width Overall (in) Axis 1:
3.622 in.
Bearing Cap Diameter (in) Axis 2:
1.188 in.
Width Overall (in) Axis 2:
3.622 in. - Find new axle seats for 66
- Figure out how to mount shocks
- Question my want of a 2 or 4 link and determine how to get it fit for the 52 / 66

- Find someone to weld all this together that will travel to where the truck is
- Question my sanity after all this (no point)
Now I realize that if I go with the 2 or 4 link setup, I won't need to worry about the shocks and how they will mount, because that will be part of the new setup. Of course, I could get something like
this for the 66 with leaf springs setup, but I'm not 100% sold on if it will work for the shocks as well.
These will work, but then the shocks come into play again.

So let's start with the simple question....Does anyone know what size the U joints for a 52 3600 are? Or could I possibly use the same U joint that I have now? No, I haven't taken it apart to test it, so I have no clue as to whether it will fit or not.
