Ran into a strange problem w/a model B Rochester on a 54 235. It wouldn't pump fuel into the venturi. I put a new check ball and spring, and new pump (flat linkage pump).
It would pump fuel up through the openiong where the "T" bracket holds the spring in but it wouldn't pump into the ventuiri once I bolted the top back on.
In looking at the top, there was no passage in the top part to pass the fuel, the gasket had a hole in it but there was no passage in the housing, just flat solid housing.
When I observed how the Rochester B on my 216 squirted fuel in the venturi,it did it via a small hole (called a pump jet hole) that was drilled from the venturi into the cylinder where the check ball, spring and "T" bracket are installed.
Upon closer inspection of the 235's model B, there was what appeared to be an indentation of a hole in the same general area as the 216's model B, but it wasn't drilled all the way through into the cylinder.
I have an assortment of small drill bits and I ended up drilling the indentation through into the cylinder.
I now have a squirt of fuel into the venturi when the pump actuates.
Am I missing something here? Is it possible that carb was made without a working pump?
