I have just disassembled a rear differential out of a 51 3100. There appears to be some corrosion where the side and differential gears ride. (See photo)

I am Looking for opinions on whether this carrier should or can still be used. I have NOS side and differential gears, along with nice used axles with good splines and all new (NOS) bearings that I intended to use in this rebuild. (I'm putting 3.54 gearing in it)

Can this carrier be reused or should I look for another one? The truck will likely be basically transportation from this point on, never to be worked hard again. (This poor thing has been beat on enough.)

Thanks O(n!)

If the spider and side gears have a hardened steel washer that runs between the gear and the carrier, no problem at all. If not, running with light loads should still be OK as long as the erosion doesn't make for too much backlash when going from pull to coast mode.

It looks very useable to me, but a replacement carrier should be easy to find.
