The Monroe swap meet, my fav, is coming up on May 16 and 17. I suggest you go on the 16th as guys pack up sometimes at the end of the day Saturday.

Then the following week, May 22 and 23 is the Abbotsford Costal Swap meet.

Will be going to Abbotsford and as usual we will coming over on a charter bus from Victoria. Arriving about 9:30 Saturday. BTW that new highway from near Ladner which seems to cut the corner towards Abbotsford saves us about 20 minutes.

Hey guys,

I'm in Abby and would love to stop by. Where is this being held?? I'm in need of a stock spindle for my 52 3100 and hoping to possibly find one wink as well as meet some fellow bolters.

Thanks!

Abbotsford was Friday and Saturday the 22 and 23 of May. I did not see much for AD trucks except for 2 rear fenders. I only bought a 20mm socket and an old MAC 1/2" combination wrench. That swap meet is a very expensive venture for us islanders. $70 for a charter bus and ferry fares. $6 to get in. $45 for two meals at the buffet on the ferry (a must do) and $3.50 for a bottle of water at the meet. For that kind of money I could have bought a complete set of MAC wrenches with change left over! I only paid $2 for the wrench and a buck for the socket.

Sedgewick, did you see the 5531 tranny? By the way, you would perhaps get more bang for you buck if you were to visit the Monroe swap meet or the Puyallup in the spring. I've been to Portland in April, but in my opinion, it was too much aftermarket stuff. Anyone know of any others coming up?

Hey Matties,
Sorry nobody got back to you. It was at the Tradex at Abbotsford Airport.
I didn't see any spindles.
I did see Boyd, thanks for the handle buttons!
Picked up a set of 4 beauty rings for $10.

John,
Checked out your truck, love your rim/tire choice. I'm in the process of getting our 52 inspection ready for its out of country inspection (right after we replace the kingpin and spindle that is) Hoping to have it ready for the Mill Lake show this year. Might be pushing it though with my work schedule as crazy as it is this month. Starting to see a few of these old trucks around Abby and Langley lately, coming out of hibernation.

Hope to see yours around, and I'll be sure to say hi if I do.

Super55 I did not see that 5531 transmission. Then again maybe I wouldn't recognize it if it hit me on the head.
I have been to Monroe a few times and did enjoy it as I did Portland. Unfortunately being on the island getting to either involves at least one night lodging although I have heard of some island guys doing it in one day. If only BC Ferries ran until midnight it would be a lot easier.

Sedgewick, a friend of mine goes on Friday. They rent a spot but don't sell, it's just a hangout place with chairs set up. I think Friday is when a lot of the good deals are made. I just get up early on Saturday and try to beat the holiday border line ups. I think it took me an hour to cross at Sumas at 6:30. That 5531 tranny was sitting outside, near the south east corner, on the ground. It was only $75. I would have picked it up, but was not totally familiar with that number. I didn't have internet connection to see if it was a good item. It was. Probably better I didn't get it though. It didn't have the linkage or short driveshaft. Not sure if the flange was correct either, but it would have been a good buy if it worked. Next lifetime I'll get it.

If I don't get it first!! The last time I did Monroe it was a 3 hour border crossing at Peace Arch. Next time I go I will take the ferry from the island to Anacortes. The only border traffic would be the ferry traffic.
Don't know if you saw the 83 Olds Cutlass in the car corral at Abbotsford. It was in beautiful condition and would have been a perfect replacement for my 81 Malibu which now has rear frame rust/rot. Asking was $2000 but could not find the seller and he left no contact info.
Was talking about it on the way home and one of the fellows said he looked at the frame and it too was rusty.
