My headlights stay on with the switch turned off. I replaced the original dash mounted switch with the same results. Short between headlights and switch?

Which light switch connection point are you connecting to the dimmer switch?

Which connection point are you connecting to the "power into" the light switch.

I replaced the original 6v with a new 12v switch. Swapped wires but new switch has fewer terminals. Park and tail lights work. Headlights come on when battery is connected. Switch does not turn headlights off. Dash lights do not work. I disconnected wire from headlight terminal on dash switch with no result.

was there anything wrong with the original switch?

I thought the original switch was the problem. Both switches have the same result. Headlights stay on if battery is connected.

have you done anything to the dimmer switch?

Connected same wire "in" as 6v switch. Didn't do anything to dimmer. Could there be a short or bare wire causing lights to stay on?

if you original switch is out of the truck you can do a continuity check with a meter.

with the switch pushed in you should not have continuity from posts labeled "To dimmer switch" to "to ammeter"

pull switch to first position then you will have continuity.



I would verify that the three post on the dimmer switch are correct.

Do you have voltage to the the "Batt" post on the dimmer switch with the headlamp switch off?

Do the lights stay on with the switch removed? If so it sounds like the Battery Hot has been connected directly to the Dimmer Switch

Have the lights ever work corectly...if so, whats changed?
