Are the doors on a '53-3100 identical to a '54-3100?

Cmayna, he's right the doors are the same. I believe that GM started vent windows in 1950, but the doors from 1948-1955 1st are all the same except that 48,49,50 have no vent windows. wink

cmayna,

I am not sure they are exactly the same because the '54 cardboard side cover is not attached with screws - it is attached with push-in clips. I am not sure if the holes for the clip are threaded as in the '53.

Also, the lower hinge cover uses smaller headed screws on a '54 - I am not sure that the depression in the cover and the hole size are the same.

In either case, the doors appear to be the same.

The other item that changed during the Advanced Design era was the door handles. The early designs had turn down handles and the later models (53 included) had push button handles. The holes cut into the doors do not match. I can't recall off hand what year the change was made, maybe someone else can chime in with that.

Check out this link - great reference for the year-by-year changes in the AD line: ChevyTrucks.org Advance Design ID Guide

The only major difference in the doors was the introduction of vent windows for 1951, and the addition of push-button door handles in '52.

GM changed the door latches and striker plates around 1952, not sure if the strikers and or latches can be swapped.

The 1954 door had a black button on the window crank (later years did too, but I do not know what years). Earlier handles had a maroon button (I do not know how many years back).
