I have had the battery disconnected while I worked on the rest of truck. Yesterday I hooked up the battery cables and noticed that the alternator started to feel warm while sitting and not running. Have I left something out or wired it incorrectly? I followed the directions exactly on the wiring diagrams, it runs fine when I start it up. 1953 Chevy pickup w/ mustang II front conversion/TH350 and 10 bolt rear out of a '68 Firebird. There can be some reasons the alternator gets warm sitting and they are all bad. Recheck the wires from the the alternator. No pinch, or shorts. You might need a diode inline to prevent discharge when off. You might have a bad regulator or some other issue. Disconnect the battery and find the problem.

I noticed that American Autowire make an adapter with a diode wired to one side of the two wire connector that will plug into the alternator. I think I will call them in the morning and see if they can offer up any answers. | | |
