For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 504 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 504 | Hi Everyone, This is a follow up to last week's request for an inspection of my brake repair. It didn't go as I had hoped. So today, I got out there and redid everything. OBTW, these brakes are on my 1953 3100. So here goes: Left Rear Brakes Right Rear Brakes New Drum Please take a look and let me know if I got it right this time. I think I got the short pads right, by putting them on the front or primary side and the long ones on the rear or secondary side. The primary spring went on first followed by the secondary spring. On the right rear pic, you can see that the secondary spring kinda hooked onto the primary spring when it went around the post. I'm hoping that isn't a problem. I'd hate to have to take it off again as I did ruin the spring removal tool in the process of taking it off the first time to correct the pad placement.... | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 | Only thing I noticed in your photos was the spring hitting the adjuster screw. The spring should have a long arm that "misses" the adjuster star.
Looks correct to me but I'm not a pro like some of the guys in this site.

The left picture shows the outer return spring is barely in place over the post and that needs to be addressed also, check the butterfly piece again. In the right photo the small blue spring is slightly compressed, it could be that the parking brake cable on that side is a bit too tight, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Only thing I noticed in your photos was the spring hitting the adjuster screw. Looks correct to me but I'm not a pro like some of the guys in this site. On the trucks that are pre-self adjuster, the spring is supposed to touch the star wheel. That's what holds the adjuster from turning.
