I was doing some searching, but was not having much luck, if someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it

Langdons sells em, I'm running one in my truck, I've also read that you can modify your own early 80's S10 V6 HEI Distributor, I can look for the directions for you if your interested.

Turn down the clamping flange on a HEI from almost any 6 cyl chevy, shorten the oil pump drive shaft, fabricate new mounting clamp, install, supply 12 volts, fire up, drive.

It helps if you have a lathe to turn down the flange, but a hacksaw, a file, and a careful hand will work.

I am new to the discussion board, and have followed closely the topics on the 235's with much interest.

Will be pulling the engine from my 54'Vette that I recently purchsed and will begin restoration on. I believe the engine I have now is from a truck (#3739716 B-19-02). Anyways I want to "beef up" the old 6 a bit this winter when it is to be rebuilt - with an HEI system as a possible option. Problem is the distributor on the engine now is an aftermarket replacement. I need to find a distributor with a tach drive since that is what was origionally on the car.

Anyone know if there are 6 cly. HEI's with a tach drive? Don't mean to bellyache but WOW - can't believe what the "asking" price for a early vette tach drive distributor let alone the water pump, generator, starter. I know this 235 will serve me just fine....

The HEI has an electric tach connection. Does this count?

One other possibility is to install a Pertronix module in the points distributor. That way you still retain the vintage look.

54 Guy - If you intend going for an NCRS points car then I'm afraid you really have no alternative except to bite the bullet and put the coin down. All the 'vette parts are out of sight which is why my 62' is a driver and not a show car.

Give me some time, I'll be on the road this weekend. It is deceptively simple. If you get your hands on an original dizzy and lay it next to an HEI, it becomes obvious what has to happen. The most difficult item is the clamp to hold the HEI in place.

Train driver I'd also like some info on this. I just want to keep my 235 reliable while I build my new frame/driveline

right now I have rebuilt the engine from the deck up and added an offenhauser dual carb intake,(not to easy considering how close the hood comes to the engine) not as much room as the trucks and older cars

I bought a 74 Impalla HEI distributor at a yard sale for $20.00. It fit right in my 63 292 and has lasted over 20 years! Don't waste your money on over the counter parts. Check a junkyard for a 74 Hei first. If it works keep using it!

I would say (probably) yes (they are the same stock shortblock). I haven't tried the 235 (yet)! Anyone else with a more informed answer, please feel free to chime in.
