For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2015 Posts: 35 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2015 Posts: 35 | Hi Folks- I've seen paint #s for anvil grey as used on the bumpers on '52-'53 trucks. I'm needing a visual here. My front bumper was sanded by a zealous teenager years back then stored inside. It has remnants of a grey paint on it. It looks battleship grey. Think porch paint here. Is it anvil grey? I'm looking for something that looks good and right-- no car shows here. Any input is appreciated.
thanks again! Mike Burgess Albert, KS

By any chance do you have the painted hub caps?
That would allow you to compare the lighter-shade of Thistle Gray (on hub caps and grill inner-bars) to slightly darker shade of Anvil Gray (on bumper)
The difference in those shades of gray is only noticeable when they are placed next to each other. Also, no one really knows what those grays looked like 60+ years ago.

On the "Anvil grey" I'm just going off of what was exposed from the sanding on the bumper. The oldest layer looks for all the world like battleship grey--the color of porch paint, to give a visual. The caps and inner grille are lighter from what I've seen here on the site. Right in line with weissgrau--Mercedes color for inside hub caps which translates to Ford tractor light grey. Honest, it doesn't vary even 1/2 shade. Great resource here guys! Forums like this one make redoing these vehicles so much easier than it was even 15 years ago! Again, thanks!
Mike
