I was even thinking of bidding on it. Looks very original, and clean. But what is up with no title, You would think a truck that clean would have a title. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 3 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 3 | O.K. This one is gonna get you... I see the guy buying the truck is from Georgia. Titles were not issued in Georia to vehicles before 1963 and was an option until 1986. I dont know why the guy never got a title from the original owner but I bet you that all that GA required of the guy was a bill of sale. I bought my 1953 in Marietta Ga and all I got was a bill of sale, no title. Its never been titled. South Carolina requires a title to be exchanged everytime you buy a vehicle. I found out all this before I bought the truck. All SC required was the bill of sale and then SC titled it when I paid my taxes and registration fees. This may explain why there is no title. You can bet i talked to about a hundred people in Ga and SC D.M.V's befroe I bought the truck. What an experience!! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 398 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 398 | WOW!!!! What an absolute GEM! If I could afford that truck, I'd keep it all OH-riginal . Just don't tell the resto guys I said that, It'll ruin my reputation... Thanks for sharing that ad, new/old-it's something to dream on... Regards, Wannabe

The guy seems very straight about all of the details, Thought about making a trip to see it this weekend, He has sent me some other photos of it, He claims the company name on the door is an egg company. Looks super nice, I have not asked the reserve, Thought it would be fun to complement my restored one. Purchased new in MO, sold to a man in TN who sold it to a man in NC. Now a guy in GA is selling it with no title. Something doesn't sound right. And he wants "less than $ 10,000" for reserve. That is a lot of geedus for a truck with title issues. If you went through all the hassle in Texas and they did issue a title it would probably be for a "1949 Rebuilt". Try to get your money back out of it with a title like that. | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | So is the paint original or not? The heater looks funky. All the original '49s I have ever owned had pin stripes on the grill.
Nice looking truck either way - cloudy title and less than knowledgeable present owner description casts a poor light on an otherwise beautiful old truck. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Nice looking truck ! The title issue would scare me off. Sold that many times, & no title. Something definitly doesn't sound right. Why would a worker at a Company (not owner) put company name on his truck. Probably an older restoration. You hear these kind of stories all the time. No title ,no way to trace history. I bought a '66 Chevy C10 longbed several years ago that supposedly had less than 5000 orig. miles. I was able to confirm the story I was given, because all the original paper work was still with truck(title ,Protecto-plate booklet, owners manual,Chevrolet"automobile sales order" invoice, & the 1966 new vehicle inspection delivery check list, were still in the clear plastic envelope in the glove box). I wonder what happened in this case. All you have to go on is heresay. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2001 Posts: 27 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2001 Posts: 27 | The guy has sent me a lot of photos, The reserve is $9,999.00, The truck looks very original, The photos of the floor even look good, I was wondering about the pinstrips also. The title thing scares me, and will probably keep me from bidding on it, I think the reserve is a bit steep, I was looking for it to be in the $8000 range, all well, we will see. | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Yeah Rusty, he sent me the same batch of photos. The floor has been painted as has the battery box cover. Also look at the drivers side cab corner. The clearance to the bedside splash pan is tight and good old rusty metal where it rubs the corner. It looks to be mostly original with a paint job in the last decade or two that has been well cared for. A shot of the underside shows no effort to pretty anything up . . . rusty like an old truck should be. All I have to think about is how nice my already titled and well known 52 5 window would look with $10k spent on it . . . I'll pass on this one. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2001 Posts: 27 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2001 Posts: 27 | I have a 52 that is almost done, I have spent an unbeleivable amount of time locating NOS parts for this truck. I really thought it would be fun to have one to drive around and use like it should be used, I am ashamed to admit that my truck while it will be driven quite frequently as I can not control myself not to drive it, will probably never haul mulch or dirt again. I guess that is the price she will have to pay for being spiffed up. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 427 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 427 | OK, I can contain myself no longer.
I'll add my observations on this "original" truck:
1) The "1949" truck has late '51 guages in it. (cream letter/brown background color scheme and 80 mph speedo)
2) Amazing how all of the original paint fell off the engine completely.
3) The paint inside the bed does not appear to match the paint on the back of the cab exactly.
4) I will bet lunch that rear bumper was not on the truck originally.
5) The title story is flimsy and has been discussed sufficently to raise enough doubts to poke holes in it.
6) The best observation (raising doubt) so far is Spanky's; he points out that the original owner was so dedicated to his job that he painted his employer's name on the doors of his personal truck.
7) It's a nice looking old chevy truck. Too bad someone is so bent on selling it that they appear to have not yet fabricated a story to explain the many inconsistencies that our experienced eyes can see.
You guys are good. I'll make sure I send my truck to Fraser Dante to sell so you won't poke any holes in me! | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | is it amnensia? The guy auctioning off the '49 e-mailed the following . . . "TO: all interested parties in the 1949 Chevy PU GEORGIA LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE A TITLE FOR THIS AGE PICKUP, BUT I HAVE FOUND THE TRANSFERRED NORTH CAROLINA TITLE ON THE TRUCK (I DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER HAVING IT ). SO I ASSUME IT WON'T BE ANY TROUBLE ACQUIRING A GA. TITLE FOR THIS VEHICLE, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO THE NEW OWNER (POSSIBLY YOU) AT THE END OF A SUCCESSFUL SALE. If you have any questions please send me e-mail. SORRY FOR THIS MIS-INFORMATION. Larry Kenimer " Sounds like a trustworthy guy eh? The reserve was just lowered.
Interesting how something that is given a great story gets everyone's interest level up and as the truth gets harder to see, this leads to everyone's dissapointment. I bet had he just been straight up front and put a no reserve low price . . . it would be right up where it is now only with a positive spin - people looking at all the good features of the truck. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,426 ODSS President | | ODSS President Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 1,426 | It's at 7.5 big ones and there's three days to go, will the marketplace push it to 10 big ones? I think so. I'm wondering if you couldn't do as well or better getting a decent truck for $2k and putting $8k into it.I would love the truck but 10 k seems too much with a checkered past.

If the current owner has nothing to hide, he should give up the PO's name to someone genuinely interested in the truck. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | I couldn't figure out why a person would expect to get at least "10 Grand" for a vehicle & not already have a title. Do you think it is really the right N.C title.
