The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Thinking ahead about my paint

My truck will be a daily driver. I know I'm a long way from painting, but I am trying to get an idea of cost and what brands to buy.

From what I can see, the exterior was painted Cape Maroon. Any recommendations on what type of paint to get?

The dash and interior appear to be black originally. The dash is still very glossy. Should I go with a quality rattle can like Rustoleum High Performance Paint or buy something in the can and spray it. The painted grille sections appear to have also been black originally. Could this be correct?

As far a painting the doors, should the hidden interior sections along with the jambs be the same black as the interior or also Cape Maroon as the exterior? Where should the black end and the Maroon start?

The frame I want to sandblast and either used Eastwood's or POR-15's version of chassis coat. Any recommendations of which one?

I know this is a lot of questions to ask, but I don't want any regrets. I have seen different variations while researching but am not sure which is the original way.

The exterior color covered the exterior sheet metal to the edge of the sheet metal (on doors and cab).

The grill was painted: outer-bars exterior color and inner bars Waldorf White

On chrome grills, only the outer bar was plated and the "back splash" bar was painted as the painted grill (Waldorf White).

The body/wheel stripes would have been Gold (or, Gold Bronze) on a Cape Maroon truck.

The interior colors would have been medium-tan or dark-tan metalli-chrome (other people may post info on a spray-can match - and which parts were painted which color).

Nonetheless, paint the truck whatever color suits your tastes (or, paint it the colors it had when you bought it).

Is this for your 50 Deluxe cab? The paint depends on your budget and how high your standards are.
The 50 had a tan dash that was flat.
The grille would of been an off white.
The doors are body color from the door weatherstrip out and the inside of the door was tan.
Sandblasting the frame is a good idea. I like powder coat myself but I'm getting lazy.
There are some good pics on this site to get an idea what is correct. Search for original paint.

Instead of the Cape Maroon, they color we chose, I'm using 2014 Honda Dark Cherry Pearl, base coat clear coat. It's a nice darker maroon. Using all PPG paints. Mike
