The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop roof fix for '63

My family keeps telling me I should quit looking for another truck and just fix the one I have, but while the corners, rockers and floor can be fixed the roof may be too far gone. Or is it?
The problem is the usual rust on the overhang at the top of the windshield. There are some holes in the actual overhang and rust inside along the top of the windshield. My question is, can the top be fixed? and how? I haven't been able to find any patch panels for that area.
I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

LOL - Very Funny!... This is my daily driver and I live on the Wet Coast. I would have to borrow my friends scuba gear to get to work on many, many days in the winter.

My '60 has about the same problem, here is what were are going to do.

1. using a sand blaster remover the lose rust from between the roof and the cab top.

2. Weld up the rot/holes/edges.

3. The use por 15 to coat the inside of both parts, it it cannot be sprayed, we will use a schultz gun to spray in undercoating.

You can reach the recesses via the "two" vet area in each rear corner.

May be more troble than its worth.Seam sealer in the drip is probably driedout, cracked and leaking.Maybe more rust in between the double walls and tough to get to and stop.
Here's what you do,
Take a trip down to my place and pick up my old cab (I'll give it to you for hauling it off,I need the space.)Repair the floorboards and rockers(cab corners... while your on a roll).Also May need to install a 700R4 cause had an automatic. You'll be roll'n in no time.

Thanks for the offer Kicks, but I'm not even sure where Gresham Or. is, or if my truck would make it down there to pick-up your cab. (What year is it anyway?)
What really frosts me is back in November my budy at the parts store tells me he knows of a guy that HAS to sell a '65 with a running 283 by the end of the week 'cause his place has been sold and is slated for demolition. I got a hold of him that night and he says ''65???? oh, you mean the '63 p/u, sold the 283 and powerglide, didn't burn any oil.. and I crushed the truck yesterday'.... :mad: I had to ask about the cab.. says.. not that good.. well the dash was good, glass didn't have any scratches, coulda used rockers...
I checked out new metal pieces today, rockers $30 each, metal fenders $400, fibreglass ones $250..
I think I'll keep looking for another cab!

My Cab is wrong yr. '64-'66.Anyway,Hope you find a good one!!!
BTW,Gresham is just east of Portland/Vanc. area.
