I saw this hitch on another post the other day, and I REALLY like it! Yeah, you have to get a '54 bumper, but I'm moving my rear stainless bumper to the front to replace the painted one there, so I was going to have to buy a bumper anyway. Once I looked at the pics and design of the hitch, though, I decided to build it myself. 4' of 2" i.d. square tube along with some plate sections I already have for gussets and bent plate for end angle, and a few drilled holes will cost under $50 where I live. And from what the pic shows, I can definitely put on better welds than those shown, and as a professional welder and welding instructor for Ironworkers for years, I'm surprised they didn't put one on there with nicer welds. I've got a stack of various certification papers (tested and passed) in many procedures, though I'm not quite sure what the page means when they advertise a "licensed" welder for theirs?? (Probably an office worker wrote the text). All that aside, if you aren't a welder, this company is American, and I'm sure they back their products with a warranty, so that's a really nice set up. And, as a wise old welder once told me and my wife (she's a certified welder, too), "Once you put a weld on anything, it's your liability for life. Do it right, because it could be your kids walking on it, driving behind it, or standing under it. Until it's scrapped, you are responsible for it!" Some places these days just want speed or looks, and don't seem to care that the weld is actually done right. Per the spare tire, if it is in the way, I'll either move the hanger or move the tire.
