For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 | I am trying fix the doors on my 59 1 ton, and man I hate working on doors. I would rather swap an engine than do doors. Blech. :p
Anyhoo, having said that, I am trying to make some progress here and of course the vent window seals are original equipment and are like rocks. I have started carefully chiping them out with a chisel and lightweight body hammer.
Any suggestions?
Any suggestions on how to remove the regulators, etc? Driver side is busted up, but you can raise and lower the window by holding on to the glass. I have bought all the seals etc, and vent window seals are on the way (dunno why I didn't order them with the rest of the stuff - probably blocked out on it). Door opening gear is easy to deal with.
I have the assembly manual and standard manual and 59 supplement. But any hints that would make this chore better would sure be appreciated. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 | irwin: Just a thought don't know for sure but have you thought about using a small tank torch. (Kind you use for soldering copper) Start warming up and use long needle nose pliers and start pulling out of track. If it is to brittle it might crack and pull out in pieces anyway. Or might get soft enough to pull from track. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Good luck) | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 | Well, Mr. Corn-ball, mebe. But...I think it would be a problem as I already painted the doors and the ZR paint is kinda soft. I shoulda done this before I painted it. Oh well. Live and learn. I just hate doin doors. Half tempted to call a window guy or take it to a shop and have it did. Instead of being called goof ball it was Corn-ball. Anyway didn't realize how far you had progressed on your truck I'm so use to looking at all my pieces. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Ok Good Luck) | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | Irwin - you've got the shop manual, so you've got the instructions - only way to do a good job on those vent windows is to take'em out of the truck!!! do'em in place and you'll bugger the paint fer sure or ruin your freshly paid for rubber! take it slow and easy, and it ain't that hard to get'em out, and workin on them is much easier on the bench - if yer doin it right, you'll be replacin the channel felt anyway . . . . . Been chiping away at the gaskets to get them so I can free them up enough to get them out of the door frames. In fact I have new window frames for the vents, new regulators, and that anti-rattle snake kit. Supposed to keep the rattlers out of the windoze. | | |
