What's the name for the 60/61 hood styling? You know, the 2 big ovals in front. I know there's a name for it, but I can't remember.

Hey BigJohn, I don't have the answer to your question,but I have a few questions for you. I'm into Antique Holmes wreckers, & presently have 2 Holmes 515's , a Holmes 525, & a Holmes W45. Does your Holmes 400 have the Chariot , or Platform style Body.Does it have a Holmes Tow Cradle. Do you have any pictures you can post. I had a 1960 Chevy L80 series LCF road tractor. It's pictured(along with all my other Chevy trucks) in the Crestline Published, Encyclopedia of Chevrolet Trucks. The '60 had p. steering, full air brakes, 348 v-8, 5 spd. trans. , 2 spd. rear axle, fact. radio, sanders for the rear wheels,low milage, & had a highway speed of about 70 mph. I remember those hoods having a nickname, but can't remember what it was.

It's a c40 deluxe cab, with the chrome stuff and big rear window. Also has the 2 speed windshield wipers and washer, athough I have some wiring issues. The drivetrain is nor original, unfortinetly. It's currently got a 74 chevy 350, but will be getting a 327 shortly. Standard sm420 4-speed and 6.17 rear end. She is definetly not a fast moving truck, but has power. There is some signifigant body rust, but nothing too bad, and nothing really heard to repair. The tow bed works, and is in fairly good shape. There is some rust and damage on the fenders, but again, nothing major. There's alot of little stuff, but nothing too major. Eventually I'll restore her, but for right now, it's just a toy. Works real nice for a hoist, and I figure on using it to pull engines and the like. Was only $800, so I couldn't pass it up.

Sounds this you've got some nice trucks. I have never seen an 80, but I have seen the 60's. There was a fairly decent c60 that went for $600 at an ag action friday, but I don't have any money right now. Do you know of any other 60/61 c40 tow trucks? It seems to me that the 60/61's are pretty rare, and the large trucks even more so. The only other c40 I've seen is my flatbed, and I've seen a few of the smaller trucks, but not nearly as many as the 55-59's, and 62-66's.
