Hi Everybody vintage Chevy truck

So am working away on Howard Knapp and I really want to tow my car trailer with it. Currently I have nothing in the back but frame rails looking out at me.

So what are you guys using for a basis for trailering and towing with these trucks?

Any insight would be great.

Check Reese, Drawtite, Easelift or other major hitch makers' web sites. I know Reese made the 35510 model that was a universal fit. I doubt the frame will have predrilled holes, but this model has an adjustable width. Whatever you do DO NOT weld to the frame. Welding can weaken the metal and cause innumerable headaches.

I use a hitch from theae guys http://www.tbrtengineering.com/ . It fits great and bolts in using original frame holes.

Thanks for the vendor for the trailer hitch...currently someone cut about 9" off the rear frame rails...I will be adding some split 2x4 steel tube to the back to bring it back to where is was when it was built...I think the overhang on the 1 ton is like 46 15/16"...

That vendor you listed...do they stock these or are they special order???

Well, i'm not sure about it handling the weight of a car hauler, however my 1 ton Dually came with a nifty little gadget on the rear bumper that allows a ball hitch to bolt into place. It will be perfect for smaller trailers and stuff without the commitment of a frame mounted receiver

In the end, it may not be the best for what you want, however i am just helping you explore your options (Like the title suggests)

What are you using for a bed? If using a flat bed you could include the a 2" reciever when you build the bed. Since I wanted to be able to pull my camper with my GMC 100 I used some 6" channel for the frame of the bed, more than strong enough to support a trailer hitch and much stronger than the frame itself.Larry
