I have 2 different timing gear covers one has a oiler restricted line and is a Chevy I think and the other is cut off tube and possibly a gm. Which would be better to use?

Timing gear covers (the sheet metal ones) don't have oilers. Are you talking about the plate between the cam gears and the block? There are a few different separator plates, depending on the type of front motor mount you need to use.

I'm talking about the one between the block and gears. They look exactly the same motor mount and all. The only difference I see is the oiler tube, maybe someone cut the end off the one that had the end open..

That is the front engine mount plate. The oiler should not be cut off or even opened wide.
