Hi! Question, my 59 Apache has some rot spots above the windshield on the inside of the cab. Does anyone know of a replacement patch or do I need to bend something for myself. Thanks!

ya got the answer right there, Bob! "rebuild not replace" - there's no patch for that, and it's one of the worst rust places on the task force - you'll prolly find a freakin mouse got in there, and it'll be fulla junk like yer seat stuffing! :mad: they crawl up the windshield pillar - it's also a place that collects condensation, and the "eyebrow" seam over the outside of the windshield starts to blister, corrode and seperate - kinda haveta cut it open and do what's necesssary :rolleyes:

Most of the stuff I do for the panels and Burbs is made to order. Did you happen to see Bob Adlers articale in Vintage truck? He did a write up on installing a custom panel I made for him. What do you need?

The oldcarkook was nice enough to make a few pages for me on his web site oldgmctrucks.com Look for wheelwright restorations. That was a fairly simple panel I made for Bob Adler. Not shown on Rob's site is the giant power hammer I built.
Most all of what I do is custom and wholesale but I do sell direct.

Metal Man, My Suburban, is preaty solid as far as I can tell. She will definitely require some serious straightening behind the door piller on both sides. Have you ever made any corners for these babys? one of mine is eaten up a bit, but the other seems solid. The roof is straight as an arrow. Can the plywood floor be removed without removing any welded metal retaining channnels?

I have never had a corner to work from. I have heard a AD hood has the same shape and one can be used for a patch panel. I have not done this. I do not know that much about the panel trucks. Good luck with yours and keep at it! Ray

MetalMan, that is great news! I have a spare, ruined hood that is already been split in half so that I can use the rear braces on my GMC hood. If the rest of the metal can go to a good use, I'm all for it. My panel's rear corners are badly rusted (as is the rest of the truck ).

Please let me know how it works. As I said I have not done this myself, I hope it works AD hoods are fairly plentifull.

The Plywood floor on the 47.5-55.5 Suburban cannot be removed in one piece without removing the angle-brace on one side (either side). As I recall, there are around 28 spot welds holding the side brace/angle-strip in place. Once the angle brace on one side is removed, the plywood floor can be tilted up and removed (I think it can removed through the rear doors' opening).

If you need replacement linoleum for the floor, Battleship Linoleum used to sell it in the correct color and thickness (in brown for 1947-1953 but not available in black for 1954/55-1st). You have to route in the grooves yourself.

I wish I had known about Metalman when my Suburban's "rocker panel" was replaced several years ago.
