After waiting two weeks I finally received my rebuild kit for my zenith 28 series carb. All was going well until this happened .. and there was not a new one in the kit and I don't even know where the hell to find this obsolete stuff! I'm about at the point to where I sell this for whatever I can get and buy 2 barrel to 1 and run this Rochester I've got.

I would contact the company you got the kit from to confirm that part was not supposed to be in there. Every carb rebuild kit I've ever used included all the soft parts, including the accelerator pump cups. You may have gotten a shorted kit. If not, see if they do carry that part separately.

Never seen a kit without accelerator pump cup. Can't "rebuild" any older carb without that. ALL the usual online guys I buy from show an accel pump stem w/cup in their 28/228 kits. Better recheck you supplier's website and picture of parts as BillB says. Source: Mike's, Carb Doctor, Ebay, Misc.

The three materials used for accelerator pumps are leather, Buna-N rubber, and Viton rubber. If not Viton or equiv, E10 with eat them up. Good is usually Blue.
Leather is usually red and Buna-N is usually Black. Old kits from Ebay advertised as NOS are no good. Anything with rubber seals, O-rings, shock absorbers, carb kits, etc. that are "NOS" are NO GOOD anymore. They are outgassed, dried up, thermal cycled 1000 times, degraded and made from old compounds. Unless they were hermetically sealed and kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's front porch. It's all in the logistics.(sorry pking)

All the Zeniths I've dealt with have had an aluminum pump piston. I think yours was replaced with one from something else.

Original Zenith 28 and 228 carburetors came with a metal accelerator pump. A cheap kit does not come with an accelerator pump. They usually don't wear our and you have 3 grooves to put the cotter pin in. If you want the shooter to squirt a little more, you give it more stroke. A lot of after market kits, that do come with an accelerator pump, come with a rubber or leather one. It looks like you have an aftermarket pump that couldn't stand up to E10. You need to get a kit that comes with an accelerator pump. I prefer the metal ones.

I bought this from carb doctor and I didn't think 60 dollars plus 10 shipping was cheap. Does anybody know if I can just buy the cup or metal pump somewhere? I'm really bummed about this.

Yeah lol I figured out after someone said metal cup what that part I had leftover was. I thought it was funny it had everything for accelerator pump besides that part. .. duh! LOL
