I've got a 54 Chevy truck- one piece windshield - that is crying out for a Fulton visor. There seems to be a lot of different models out there, but most are for split window cars. What am I looking for to fit my truck? There must be a different kind of center bracket for the 54-551/2's. Are there model numbers for these things?

Due to the fact that the '54 and '55 first series are relatively rare as far as windshield geometry is concerned (compared to split window cars and trucks) . . . the market for the right Fulton visor for these trucks is pretty stiff. They come up on ebay every few months and often go for $300 - $700 depending on condition. I saw one a while back NOS GMC in the box go for over $800. If the look is that important to you . . . better be prepared to dig deep into the wallet. smile

Yes you are correct. There is a specific roof bracket for the 54/55 1st series Chevy/GMC trucks.
Looks like we need to take this to the Swapmeet section. I do belive 54/55 1st NOS visors are avaliable there.

I am pretty sure that they didn't make a single application model that only fit the 54-55-1/2 truck- they are adjustable right? I found an instruction booklet that lists fulton model numbers for each type of car and there was a lot of cross referenceing between models and makes you just put the center clip screws in different holes to adjust the width- but it only went up to 1951. Does anyone have a copy of instructions that references the fulton model number for a 54 truck? We could then check what else takes the same fulton model.

It may be the same fulton model for a passenger car or a **** or chrysler of some kind - then at least we could cast a wider net to find the correct visor, and they might be less scarce and expensive.....

MT,

Are there both a Fulton visor and a Chevrolet visor for the '54?

Did you see Kook's picture of a '54 GMC visor(and radio antenna)? Is the GMC visor different from the Chevrolet visor in 1954? Didn't the '54 Chevrolet visor not have a "divider" piece as shown in Kook's picture?

Thanks, Tim

I have a visor that was removed from a '55 1st. I have no idea what brand. I have another '55 1st with holes in the roof that match this bracket exactly.

It also has a trim piece (SS?) around the leading edge and it appears a couple of pieces of end trim are missing.

So to answer one question- Yes, someone made a visor for '54-'55 and it doesn't attach to the center strip (which, of course is not there).
Who made this one is a mystery to me as I can find no markings or numbers. There is however what looks like a tarpaper substance gasket on the mating surface of the bracket. The ID may be under there but it is not important enough to me to ruin the gasket to find out. I'm hoping someone has one like it and can ID it.

GM made a 54/55 1st series only visor for the Chevy trucks [ GM part #986936 ] this visor looks much like the pictures Cletis posted [ except the pictures of his visor are missing the correct truck end brackets. Fulton also made a 54/55 1st visor [ with the correct roof bracket for the one piece windshield ].

Both of these visors are avaliable in NOS or used in the swapmeet section.
Email me privately for pictures & specifics on these visors.
