I want to put engine dust pans ( they fit between the engine oil pan and frame rails) back on my '46 gmc but I think there must be some attachment brackets that are missing. Does anyone know if there were brackets and if so does anyone have any pictures of them? I imagine they are pretty hard to find if they exist.

Are the 47-48 (49 and later don't have them) the same as the 46?

Thanks for the reply, I don't have any idea what they look like from either year. I understand that the pans are rare (I have a set for my truck) but I wonder if the brackets tended to be left in place on most trucks.Do you have a picture of some from a later year?

I am not sure if the brackets are the same on civilian trucks as on military, but here are some reference images. These were from a mid-1942 military G506. I know the pans are slightly different to accommodate a military exclusive steering box. The attachment brackets may be common to the two applications. At any rate, they would be relatively easy to fabricate.

P.s The 47-53 splash pans are different from the earlier model year pans.

Thanks a million for the photos. I suppose those brackets are to attach the back of the pans to the frame. Do you know what the front of the pans are mounted to?

I can take a few pictures of my '46 tomorrow. I have a parts truck with the fenders out of the way, so maybe I can get a good shot.

I got some good information (pictures) from the forum on what the front brackets look like but nothing on the rear brackets. I know someone out there has these pans on their truck and if you do can you describe what the rear brackets look like and if they are frame mounted? I don't see any holes in my frame to mount a bracket near the rear of the pans.

Check Gene Wirths (?) photos. Some time ago in reply to a similar question he posted photos of brackets he made.

Here is a (not great) picture of the front of the splash pans and how they attach to the frame. Will try to get back ones when I can get to it.

Front mount from another angle:



Rear attaches to brackets that run in from the frame rails. On my truck the passenger side also has a clamp to steady the battery to starter cable. The driver's side also has attachments for the brake return spring and the clutch return spring.
