on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 89 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 89 | Hey all just a quick double check before i jump on it...
The hood on my 54 3600 got a bit crumpled in the nose area around the front emblem. A fairly straight hood from a 49 just came up for sale locally for $50 and i figure easy swap and less bodywork.
Question: will the 49 hood fit on the 54 with no major problems?
Ive searched a little and a found a thread in which the builder went the opposite way - put a 54 hood on a 49 and said it worked.
Seems like the only difference is where the holes for the front hood emblem to mount are located (which is a simple fix) and maybe the side emblem holes as well.
My major Q i guess would be overall fitment to the cowl/fenders/grill and weather or not the hood latch/shroud mechanism is compatible between the years? Don't think they ever changed the hood springs...
For $50 i probably can't go wrong but figured id run it by the great minds of Stovebolt first.
Thanks in advance

It fit absolutely perfectly with the 54 hood catch and the 49 hood latch. Therefore, I cannot imagine any problems putting 47-53 hood on a 54 truck. The 47-53 hood front emblem holes (four of them) are recessed. I believe that the 54 emblem will still work. The 49 hood will have extra holes on the sides for the 3100 emblems below the CHEVROLET emblems. Carl
