Hey all. I have parted out many Chevy stovebolt 216s in the past and the rocker assembly's were all the same..I recently brought home a 46 Chevy 1.5 ton. I noticed the valve cover said GMC so I assumed it was a replacement cover or maybe the whole motor had been replaced. I went to pull the rocker assembly and notice its quite a bit different..instead of cast iron rockers it has formed metal ones and the oiler in the center looked a little different as well??? Did GMC use different parts in there stovebolts?? any ideas?? Thanks Todd

GMC's are totally different engines. Check the number stamped next to the distributor- - - -the first 3 numbers are supposed to identify the engine size, such as 228, 248, 270, 302, etc. The GMC engine is about 2" longer than a stovebolt, and it will have insert-type rod bearings, different rods and pistons, and a much more efficient cylinder head design. Don't scrap it out- - -a GMC engine in good shape is worth quite a bit to someone who needs it, especially if it's a 270 or 302.
