Is anybody building these for '47-'53 3/4 ton trucks? Ray Stanley used to make them but doesn't any more. Or, can someone get me some detailed photos of both sides so I can build my own?

I could be wrong, but that looks like a carrier for a 1/2 ton. 3/4 ton are different.

Thanks, guys. I had seen that auction before I posted. I assumed...now I'm not quite sure why...that it was a 1/2 ton rack. I've e-mailed the seller to find out whether it's 1/2 or 3/4 ton.

Metalman, I think you're right. Looks as if the original three lug bolts were removed and two added in their place. Maybe to fit the wheels from upgraded running gear? Not a fatal flaw, but worth considering. If the price takes the typical run up at the end of the auction, it'll go for a lot more than I'm willing to pay.

Y'know, looking at that auction photo again, I see that the two lower bolts appear to be quite high on the plate. I wonder if they used the same plate for the 8 lug racks with the holes a little farther down. If so, it would be trivial to convert a 6-lug carrier to 8-lug.

I have mine off my 48 3/4 ton. If someone can explain how to put up a picture i will have my wife take some pictures as she knows how to use the digital camera.

I finally got a reply from the eBay seller. The auction carrier is for a 1/2 ton truck.

I have contacted one of the swap meet advertisers, who offered me a 3/4 ton rack for $55 plus shipping. I have sent him a money order.

Ray, thanks for the information. I didn't realize who you were till your second post here. I'm having trouble visualizing the six thick washers you described. Where do they go, or will it be obvious to me when I get the rack?

The wheels I am using have a lot more backset than stock wheels, so I will have to devise an extension to hold the tire away from the bedrail. However, the weight of the tire/wheel combination is about the same and it's only an inch or so wider, so the center of mass will be in about the same place. I don't expect to have a problem provided I get all the reinforcements installed correctly. I may be back for more help when my carrier gets here.

Thanks, Ray. That'll be good to know when I finally find a rack. The one I had ordered turned out to be vaporware.

Are the rods the same length on the 1/2 ton and the 3/4 ton racks? Or maybe to put it a better way, is the wheel plate farther from the bedside? Are there any other differences between the 1/2 ton rack and the 3/4 ton besides the wheel plate?
