We used them on round track racers and extended the life of the bearings and gears about 25% or so. Putting a fitting above the ring gear at the top of the housing used the splash off the gears to pump the fluid through a small transmission cooler mounted inside a frame rail. The return line went into the left side axle tube a couple of inches outboard of the housing.

Engine,trans and rear have them. So far so good. My magnets are external. A mother to remove... You could loose a finger.

That's why a lot of differentials have a passageway cast into the carrier housing to lube the pinion bearings. Putting a 3/8" pipe threaded hole at a tangent to the ring gear allows a good bit of lube to be diverted through the cooler lines, especially at operating temperature when it thins out a bit.

Wish I had remembered to put a magnet in the Diff housing when I had it apart. Just got it back together this past weekend.

The older centerline-mounted pinion gear like the banjo-housing Fords ran a lot cooler than when the engineers decided to lower the floorboard height by putting the pinion gear off center toward the bottom of the ring gear. Hypoid gears are quieter, and somewhat stronger than centerline gears due to the increased surface contact of the hypoid gears, but they're a lot more tricky to get the tooth contact pattern set up right.
