I put my new gauges in and when I tried to hook up the amp gauge it sparked a lot. I guess I didn't have it centered in the holes. So do I need to order a new one? Or is there still hope for this one.

If you are saying that it shorted to ground and that is now corrected, why would it be damaged? You can connect a load to the ammeter using a headlight and test for deflection. Reverse the polarity to see deflection in the other direction.

I recommend disconnecting the ground cable from your battery before installing your gauges.

Amp meter is tough. Please disconnect the battery before you install and connect it. All of the current, except the starter will go through it. So if the lights are on or there is something shorted it will flow through the amp meter. It is always "hot" . Pull the cables off the battery and you should be fine.

Thanks for the replies. I know at least one of the posts is grounded to the housing. I will try to center them in the holes
