on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 24 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 24 | So ... you see a lot of '46's with two distinctly placed HOLES above driver and passenger windows. These are obviously for mirror mounting. Well, I found a pair of original -or at least very good aftermarket- strut sets for the mirrors that fit these holes. If you look at a lot of pictures of '46's on the Internet, you may see these holes, maybe not - I assume some were bondo-ed over and painted. But-- how come we almost NEVER see original mirrors like the ones I found? Second question, is it an unforgivable sin to drill out the door frames on MY '46 to accept these apparently extremely rare mirrors? They look very cool and if anyone is interested I can send you pictures of the mirrors I found (they came off a 46 1 1/2 T). Input is welcomed thanks -John
Stovebolts are like women; as they mellow with age, it's harder to get 'em to turn over on a cold morning, but once they're warmed up, LOOK OUT!

Plus always interested in unusual items placed on the Art Decos whether factory or dealer/owner. My 46 2-ton has those as well. I will be welding mine up before they get painted. I made a set of mirror's that look the part of the art deco period and I don't see them coming off in my lifetime!
Like anything else we do to these old trucks, if it is done nicely it will not devalue the truck. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 581 | These mirrors were a factory option on the Art Deco series, but I believe only on the 1 1/2 and 2 ton trucks, and only on the driver's side doors. The mirror was a long rod straight out from the front hole, with a support brace connecting from the rear hole, and a small, round drop-down mirror. They were useful for seeing around the sides of large stake beds, ie: farm trucks.
The mirrors are very rare, and not currently reproduced.
At least, that's what I think.

Mine had no holes in the doors and had just the single mirror on the driver's side door hinge. Now it has them on both sides on the door hinge. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 430 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 430 | | | |
