Hey guys, not much left of the winter, so almost time to start fixing the chevy up again! (its so freaking cold now)

First of all, how are these called: PIC.
And you guys now where i can order those but a bit longer?

Second of all, im going to change the exhaust a little on my truck. Are 2" pipes a good size for my 217ci in-line 6?

Yep, McMaster woould be my first choice, ya out fumbled me Tim.
2" pipes would be just fine for your Stovebolt Raoul. A little
big but just fine, and a lot of the reproduction pipes would
be made from 2".

About the pipes. There was a rusty exhaust on my chevy last year, which ended just in front of the rearaxle, so i made a quick fix, made it longer so it comes all the way back, but now i want to fabricate a brand new one.

The old rusty one is 2". But what was the original size? I think im going to use 2" pipes again, because the engine sounds good and reacts quickly so i dont think its a problem


My choke wire is fixed to the carb with a hoseclamp, but its moving when i pull and push the choke button. I have no idea who did that and why, but how is it supposed to be installed? Does anyone have a picture?

The Exhaust Pipe ---gp 3.609
There are only two places listing the exhaust pipe diameter. One is for the ’53
passenger which is 2”. And the other is ’53 sedan delivery which is 1 7/8” (1.875”)
expanded to 2” at the muffler.

The Engine Exhaust Muffler---gp 3.701
The Muffler Flanges are listed as
1 7/8” (1.875”) to 2” OD at the exhaust pipe flange
1 11/16” (1.6875”) to 1 13/16” (1.8125”) at the Tail Pipe Flange

The Tail Pipe ---gp 3.705 listed as 1 7/8” (1.875”)

Don’t agonize over the pipe diameter. Trying to engineer the optimum pipe diameters
for a low performance 216 Stovebolt engine isn’t worth the effort.
The listings in the parts book are all over the place so it is my feeling that a 2” pipe is
fine for the exhaust pipe over all application, 216 or 235.
Even though the tail pipes are generally listed as 1 7/8” (1.875”) 2” would be fine there
also.
My reasoning is that if you are going to fabricate your own pipes then using all 2” pipe
would simplify the buying or bending process as 2” dies or bends would be easier to
find.
Unless you have access to an automotive exhaust pipe bender
you will have a hard time bending your own pipe, I tried.
To get the tight radius bends you need special dies. Or you
could buy pre-made bends and weld all the pieces together
or you could simply take it to a muffler shop and have
them install the pipes in a few minutes. I'm sure Sweden has
muffler/exhaust shops just as we do here in the states.

Denny thanks, i,m buying pre bended parts and weld them together myself, done it loads of times beofre so thats no problem.

And Dads50, thank you!! Now i know what to look for!

Now i see some parts are missing for the manual choke on my rochester B carb. first of all the bracket. i made a new one, so the wire comes from the right angle.

Now i miss the small square block with the screw that holds the wire from the choke knob. (the last owner/fixer just fixed the wire by bending it and using a cable tie) what is that called? I need to order it from ebay, or maybe there is a easy way to fix the automatic choke, probably buying a new thermostat or something. I do like it to use the manual choke though

That would take some modification to use as a choke stop on your Roth B

Might be better off finding a junk carb core on ebay or request in the parts wanted section of the forum.
