Window glass for 39-40 did not have a frame. 41-46 used a frame. You can use the frame and glass from a 41-46 in your 39 if you want. The glass pattern for 41-46 is slightly smaller than 39-40 to compensate for the added frame. Not certain why they went to the frame in 41 unless it was to avoid glass breakage.

I just last week removed the glass with frames from my '46 half ton project. If you need photos I can post a link.

Been driving my 39 since 1977. The door windows do not have frames, and they have never cracked or broke. They don't rattle either.

'37-'38 did not use frames. The glass is set into the channel with setting tape. With new window weather stripping, the glass will not rattle or chip. Mine seal really good for a old truck.

You don't really need the frames to protect the glass. I have been driving my 40 since 1998 and have never had an issue with chipping the glass. I think they look a lot better without the frames.
