I have not pulled it out as of yet. I removed the dust cover and found it to be leaking down and coming off the shaft. Can anyone lead me to what my problem could be? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | After all these years bolts could be loose, but I think the gasket is gone between the front retainer and case. You can just replace that after the trans is pulled or just do a complete tear down and rebuild if you want.

Also, take a close look at the inside of the bearing retainer and the bearing nut/oil slinger on the clutch gear. These are both machined surfaces and some wear or damage on either or both can cause gear oil to work it's way inside the bearing retainer and leak out around the shaft. Fred

Next question, 3 plugs in the transmission top, side and bottom. Obviously the bottom is the drain were do i fill it to? the top one or the side one? Its had a small leak I had assumed it was the rear main seal . But while doing some investigating on my trans fluid i found were it was really coming from. Thanks for the info. "Also, take a close look at the inside of the bearing retainer and the bearing nut/oil slinger on the clutch gear." "Bearing nut oil slinger"? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 | Check out the shop manual for the parts breakdown of the transmission. The bearing retainer also acts as a sleeve for the release bearing and part of the oil retention system for the front of the trans. The bearing nut/oil slinger works in conjunction with the aforementioned part. If there is damage or excessive wear there will be too much clearance between the components and oil will wick out the front of the trans. The only way to inspect these components is to remove the trans and partially disassemble it. Hope that helps. Great looking truck. Leaks are a pain! Fred
