I've taken off the panel, checked to make sure that the 2 pawls are releasing (they are) and I've tried just about every manner of persuasion that I can think of, short of putting my crowbar under the outter skin and ripping away at it. I've also got a Swazall that's being considered.
What appears to have happened is that the door has hung down on the hinge plates (it has new pins in it) and the latch mechanism of the door is too low to release from the catch.
I've been trying to persuade the rear up the door upward, but without success. I suppose I could put the expanding jaws of my Porta-Power between the door edge and the rear sill, (if I could get enough room for it) but that seems rather drastic...and I might not like the results.

Sometimes the latch gets caught between cogs or past one. I've been using Hardy's technique. I never consider opening that door. But it would be nice if I could let someone in to ride along without having to crawl over the seat.

It's always a good idea to remove the striker plate for the latch when you are adjusting the hinges on the door or hood so you don't get it stuck.
