What do you guys recommend I use for steering box fluid in my '42 1/2 ton?

John Deere corn head grease works well. Any 'self leveling' grease will be OK. Don't use chassis or bearing grease.

I have had good results with is product.

They sell it for a good price, $15.75 for 500ml.
Much more expensive than the price of any brand or corn head grease.

Restoration Supply Company has an impressive variety of hard to find products/parts.

That's cuz their located in a high rent district Tim, Escondido, CA.
But, I bought 2 jugs of Penrite back in '09 when I rebuilt
mine and another steering gear and I think I got it from them.
Pretty sure they are the only game in town when it comes to
importing it. I'm very surprised that out of all the US
petroleum companies that not one is producing a light self
leveling grease.

It was about ten bucks a jug back then so fifteen bucks
doesn't surprise me.
The Penrite did flow the best in that slump test I did, JD
corn head came out second but was a bit thicker than the
Penrite.
I think if you added a little more hypoid grease to the JD corn
head grease and mixed it up in your wife's blender while she's
out, that you'd have about the same consistency as the
Penrite. Whether it would separate after setting is something
that is worthy of a little test. Might just do that after I
finish with aging the E-10 samples that I bottled up last year.

I think it is is one grade thicker (NLGL0) than the GM grease (which is not available) and I think that the Penrite grease matches the GM spec (NLGI00).

Nonetheless, I'll read with interest (and learn from) the results of any test you carry out.

I posted this a hunert times before. But when I started out
working in the Chevy dealership back in '59 my first job was as
a greaser. Did lub jobs, dealer trades and shuffled cars around.
We checked and topped off if needed, the steering gears with the
same stuff that went in the rear end and shifter box----hypoid
grease. Did the same thing when I worked in the two Sinclair
service stations before I worked at the dealership.

Yeah, grease compound settling test, just what I need, another project.
