He said my plugs should be .045 and that's pretty much for all HEI equiped vehicles.....Tom states .060 but I was told that was "wrong thinking now a days". | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 | .060" and even .080" gaps were recommended on some engines in the late 1980's when the fuel injection mixture was so lean that some misfires were occurring with the usual .045" gap due to a lack of properly atomized fuel between the insulated and the ground electrodes. The coil on most 50KV+ HEI systems will fire a plug reliably with the ground electrode completely missing, so stressing the coil is not an issue. Any gap from .035" to .080" or more will run a stovebolt engine with a carburetor- - - - -set it anywhere you choose!
