I just purchased a 52 1/2 ton. It runs, but I need to get it to pass the Texas safety inspection. One of my first tasks will be rims (I found a set of 15's) and new tires. I'm going to sandblast and paint the rims. Can anyone tell me what color the rims were in 52? Were the lug nuts painted to match? I don't want to re-paint when we paint the truck.

Maybe someone can find GM documentation that specifically describes 1952 wheel colors (Brad might have a Truck Data Book). The 1953 TDB does not refer to wheel color - 1952 and 1953 were had similar Korean-War-influenced specifications when it came to trim and body colors/finishes.

Presumably, you have a Chevrolet truck (not a GMC)?

The color would most likely have been black (a semigloss black, similar in gloss to the running board black); or, the wheel color might have been the body color.

The lug nuts were most likely cadmium/nickle plated.

Recollection is vague, but I think rims were body color and nuts were not painted.

Are you referring to 1946 or 1952?

In 1946 the wheels were black, or optionally painted body color upon request.
