I didnt realize that it was a One Ton until researching the data plate on GVWR, 8,800 lbs. Plus, no rear shocks, only double stack springs. But why it is not a dually is a mystery. But I feel rather silly, not realizing until three months later! The previous owner must not have realized either. Did they make a one ton with a single wheel rear axle?

You've probably got 18" wheels, right? The rear brake drums are big enough that 16" wheels won't clear the drums- - - -been there done that, with my 3800 dually flatbed. Jerry

Both Suburban models were 1/2 ton and there was no 1-ton Suburban or 1-ton suspension option for 1/2 ton Suburbans.
There was a one ton Panel and it did not not have a GM dual rear wheel model/option.

Suburbans were only offered in 1/2 ton. The stainless fender strips were not avail. on any suburban. Only panel vans were eligible for the stainless fender trim package. The rear quarter windows are too small to be factory openings for suburbans. The dead giveaway would be detailed pictures of the inner body sides around the rear quarter windows. Guaranteed to be a converted 1 ton panel van. | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 75 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 75 | Yep your not stupid .I have a 49 3800 series it has 17 inch wheels ,9 foot bed ande single tires on back. One tons are cool and far less common than 3/4 tons. They're also way more practical than 1 1/2 tons as well. Heck, you even have your own special forum.
Let's see some pictures.
