Has anyone done an inexpensive lowering job on a 3600 chassis? I have bought an air ride kit to adapt to my truck but was wondering if one could flip the front springs or remove a few to get the stance I want. I don't want to hack the frame up but trying to keep it close to stock as possible with the 216 engine and drive line. I love the truck but not the height!

Try 2 yards of gravel in the bed- - - -that's the way they got lowered back when they worked for a living!

how low are you planning on going? I dropped my '51 3100 4 inches and then removed some leaves in the front. 3" drop with spring removal in back. I am unsure if you are able to do this or not since I don't know about your truck and the differences.

These old trucks ride poorly when everything is right. If you lower it, I am sure that it will only make the ride worse and likely less safe. But then I am very partial to the look of the original stance even if heavily modified. To each his own.

Carl,
I am slowly working towards making my truck a "HotRod" like they would have done it back in the 50s. I am not currently looking for an LS3 and camaro (mustang) front end or anything. It is all about having fun with your build right?

Absolutely! I was actually being sincere when I said 'to each his own.'

Sid's axles are the way to go in the front. When it comes to the rear on the 3600's you haven't got much distance you can drop before your having to install a c-notch in the frame for axle tube clearance. I myself like the "hotrod" stance of more rake between front and back. I use Sid's axle (4" drop) up front, and removed all overloads as well as 2 or 3 leaves from both back spring packs (no c-notch). Not a ground scraper by any means. But hopefully a nice usable everyday driver/puller style truck.

By the way, I did switch to 1/2 ton running gear.
