From what I have seen, the fuel tank relocations to inside the frame, behind the rear axle, include the fuel filler in the bed floor.

I don't like this for a number of reasons. To me, the logical place for the fuel filler would be in the driver side rear fender, behind the tire. There is all kind of room on the fender back there for it.

My idea is to have a side fill fuel tank, where the filler neck on the tank is between the top of the frame and the floor of the bed. The metal bed side would have to be notched for it to pass through. The filler neck would then be hidden inside the fender. Perhaps a locking filler door in the fender, with the gas cap concealed inside.

Has anyone done anything like this? If so, please share your thoughts and also photos.

Thank You
Tim

I did a 54 Chevy, used a Suburban/Blazer tank under the bed.
The original filler neck was cut down to fit in the drivers rear fender w/stock rubber gasket. Then I had some stainless exhaust pipe bent to the angle I needed & put it all together w/hose & clamps. Depending on the tank & sending unit you use you may have to add a vent for the tank to breath. I welded a plug into the filler neck & ran steel tubing(brake line) along the inside of the fender using the fender bolts and looped it back towards the filler neck & pushed a gas filter in the end so no dirt had any chance of getting back into the tank. Sorry no pics........joe
