I got a used OE 4 Barrel Intake Manifold from a 1960's 283 engine.......AND......
I got a newer Edelbrock 600 CFM carb. laying around also.
My Question:
Has anyone ever tried to remove the plenum dividers
( the area underneath where the Rochester Carb. sits ) on the intake manifold on a Drill Press / Milling machine or a cut off blade and grinder ?
So that the newer Edelbrock Carb. fits the old style intake, like a new Edelbrock Open Plenum Design Intake ?
Have I explained what I want to try correctly ?
Just wondering if anyone has tried it before and if it would work.
Trying to use some parts that are laying around.
No sense spending money on new parts if I can make the old ones work somehow.

Either get a carb that will fit the manifold, or a manifold designed for the carb you have. Eliminating the divider between the planes of a dual plane intake will have no good results, and possibly a BUNCH of bad ones.
Unless you're planning to run the engine above 3,000 RPM most of the time, there is no advantage whatsoever in combining the flow from both sides of the carburetor. If you DO plan on running wide open most of the time, a stock 283 dual plane manifold will be about as worthless as a screen door in a submarine.
