So maybe someone here can educate me on 67-72 GMC trucks before I learn the hard way.

I have a 70 GMC 3/4 ton and a 72 GMC 1/2 ton that I am hoping to merge into one truck. The 70 is almost rust free and I bought the 72 GMC for other parts.

I know the 72 has front disk brakes and 5 bolt wheels, but what about sheetmetal and trim pieces?

I would like to take the driveline/frame from the 72 and add the cab and front clip from the 70.

I was looking at an online ad and a guy was looking to swap a 70 gmc grill for a 72 gmc grill. What is the difference?

If there is a difference its only cosmetic, even then I thought 67 was one year-GMC in center,68-72 all the same. There may be a slight diff in side grille trim styling from 68-70 & 71-72.I know for a fact 68-72 GMC uses same fender, also same as 68 only Chev fender. Core support on GMC is unique, same as 67-68 Chev but with dual headlite bucket brackets welded on. Pretty much all same truck other than the minor sheetmetal/trim differences during the years. 72 doors are unique, diff trim panels. Brian

Thanks for the heads up on the doors. I was hoping to use one 70 and one 72 GMC door.

I did wander out tonight and look and it appears as if the center bar is wider in one grill than the other.

Go to GMCPaul's catalog, scroll down on the trim page and read the descriptions on the GMC grill trim. There are some differences.

1967 Chevy and GM fronts are almost identical. ('67 has no side marker lights, '68 does; and the GMC "Custom" rectangular emblem hole is on both years. The Chevy breakout is similar). The '69-'72 fenders are the same; just emblem placement is different. The '67 and '68 have different core supports (as previously noted) than the later trucks, and Chevy and GMC differ.
