There is a key lock on the passenger door but not the driver's door. How then do you lock the truck when away? | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 1,429 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 1,429 | Hi clhaney, this is a common question because it seems so goofy today. You can do a search on this site and find out all about it. But basically you lock the drivers door with the little inside lock then slide across the seat and exit the passenger side. I'm guessing most people do as I do and get out the drivers door, open the passenger door and lock the drivers door from the little inside lock, then lock the passenger door. Not a big deal once you get used to it.

I put the one with the key lock on the driverside. It's on a 58 GMC.Larry

All I have is the two handles, door and window. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | Push the door handle forward with the door closed. This is assuming the handle is properly installed, pointing down and slightly forward. | | | | Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 63 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 63 | | | | | Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 18 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 18 | They are correct! Lock the door from the inside and then slide over and get out the passenger door.
The idea was you parallel park along city streets and don't get out into traffic. Also, you could then unlock and open passenger door for your girl, then she reaches over and unlocks driver door.
Grew up driving Model A's and '40's trucks...you get used to it.

All I have is the two handles, door and window. Just move the handle in the opposite direction than you would to open the door. You should feel it move into the locked position. | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,554 | What cletis and rich said !!! 1951 3100 Chevrolet1951 Chevrolet Suburban CarryallImage"A house is built with boards and beams. I knew of the single passenger lock (obviously) but I would lock the drivers side, scootch over the seat then try and lock the passenger door with the internal handle before I shut the door, then try to lock it with the external keyed lock......DUH! Needless to say this didn't work so I just left it unlocked on many occasions... Sometimes it's a pain to slide over if you have a bunch of stuff on the seat or pass. side floorboard. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 33 Years. But to stay correct, leave the key lock on the passenger side and slide across the seat. However this is a task in my LCF. The gearshift and park brake handle is in the way, when you are 70 and weigh 185 lbs. Also try sitting under that big steering wheel, and the seat is all way back. Folks must have been smaller back in them thar days.
